| Studio Conferencing - with Apple's isight. Thanks again to Becker for alerting me to apple's new AV ichat... you can literally use ichat as an alternative to long distance telephone- so far I've got Kristen Alexander hooked on it. Anyway, I bought two of the "isight" cameras, one for the marina del rey office, and one for when I'm traveling. My thinking is this- since I've only been in Marina Del Rey about 4 weeks this year, I've set the studio up for remote networking... with a static IP address, and I can do tech support to the office remotely with a product called "apple remote desktop". Oh by the way, don't buy the 10 user pack, it is a waste of money, you only need one user. Anyway, with isight, you can not only speak with voice, you can also setup the camera so both sides can have a videoconference. This to me is awesome, because I can be at any hotel with a wayport high speed connection, or at my home in Canada, and be fully, even visually connected. I can now access the studio calendar, speak with the studio without roaming or long distance charges (get this- ANYWHERE in the world- including Asia, europe, etc. with NO long distance charges... and VIDEO. The camera was only 199 each, and the software is free. Download it, if you wish, at apple.com |
