More shots with the 50mm f1.4 - this was a shoot with two kids, took all of about five minutes... we just went outside the door of our studio and took these photos in the elevator lobby. I chose the elevator lobby because the lighting was very wrap-around. If I used a lens longer than the 50, I'd take a nine-story fall! These shots were all shot on 2304/N/BXW/ORG setting on the S2.

Today was an amazing shoot day. Last time I cast for a national ad campaign, I honestly met 100 models and still couldn't find one that I liked- I had to go to real-people casting, and New York didn't want a brunette! So next time, I'm going to have to insist on Kelly. You have got to see this girl... here's Kelly

All of these shots were done with basically the 50mm f1.4 lens- a cheap $300 lens, can you believe it? The 50mm is about the best lens I've seen for versatility and quality... the closeups are absolutely phenomenal. Here's a sportswear commercial shot as well, also taken with the 50mm wide open at f1.4, using ISO100 in the bright sun. I'm going to see if she'll let me post her contact info- she is available for hire in Los Angeles, and I have seen a lot of models- this one is absolutely amazing...

CAN THE S2 SHOOT ACTION SHOTS??

Kate Morgenstern of Indianapolis wrote today to ask if the S2 could do action photography. While it can't do 8fps sequences, if you understand the timing of the camera, you can nail the moment repeatedly. For example, here's a shot at a wedding I did in Hong Kong in February (this is the bride's father when he got the catering bill)

Actually, it's a Kung Fu guy showing how he could break himself out of a thick chain just by spreading his chest muscles, whatever. I got the shot just as the chain was breaking...

The S2 does best for action when the focus is set on AI mode [+] and the barrel switch set to "C" and not "S"

Some people have been asking for a comparison of color digital IR to the real scene... here it is:
