Writing a book is about oh - a three year process. For me the process of writing "A/M" went like this. I was telling a story at dinner about one of my crazy weddings, and my friends were going - shut UP! (like no way!) And then I had another story that was a riot, and then I realized, you know - my life has been 'interesting' with stories that were funny. So I started dictating onto my iPod and sent the .wav files to a dictation person. The dictation person then sent the files to an editor. I then wrote a letter to New York Times Bestselling author Jodee Blanco (whose book I was reading at the time) with a sample of the manuscript. She loved it, referred it to her friend Kent Carroll (a legendary publisher, formerly head of Carroll and Graf). They then recommended it to my publisher Glenn Yeffeth of benbella books While the manuscript was being reviewed, I hired an entertainment lawyer, Shelley Surpin. "Grace Of My Heart" was one of my favorite movies ever, and Shelley was one of the producers. I was thrilled to hear her stories of Illeana Douglas. Jodee was Jim Carrey's publicist in one of my other favorite movies ever, "Man On The Moon". This whole process has been just great as an experience. As a first-time author, you feel very exposed and disoriented publishing and promoting your book. It is a huge relief that my book is well-received and selling well. With that all going on, I'm 88 pages into my new book, "Huff and Bluff" I really enjoy writing, and so it was nice that my first book did well. It allows me to publish more books.
H/B came out from an article pitch to "Vanity Fair" magazine as a followup to Alec Baldwin's book, "A Promise To Ourselves". I'll reveal more later as the plans firm up. |
