 NEW IPHONE APP PICKS PAINT COLORS BASED ON YOUR PHOTO!
Every day the iPhone gets more valuable through the applications that you can download (mostly for free).  Today I downloaded "Ben" - Benjamin Moore Paint's fantastic new iphone app that lets you take a photo, then asks you to pick a spot on the photo - and it will tell you what BM paint color it is, and WHERE TO BUY IT.
Captive marketing at its best.  When I wrote Montage Software, we sold it to Art Leather because it was a software tool that made the user of the software captive to Art Leather products.  Ben is like this.  What am I going to do, rip a piece of drywall off my wall and take it to the store?  Or bring a BUNCH of those paint chips home?  No, I'm going to use BEN.  It's freaking brilliant.  Bravo to iPhone and bravo to BJM paints.  So smart!
p.s. Melissa could've used this when she had the interior of Woodlake painted yellow.  Just sayin'

Gary,

One problem immediately comes to mind: the color temperature of the lighting of the room.

For example let's say the wall was plain white. But if the room lights are all tungsten the wall will photograph as reddish. Or if the same wall were illuminated by a large window it could have a blue tint. Or if CFL lighting were used, the wall most certainly would be any color other than white.

Now, add a mix of the lighting I've described and the once white wall would be almost anything on the color spectrum. Or worse - a mix (depending on where one looked).

See what I mean?

As a professional photographer of homes for Realtors this is a problem I often see and it's also why I shoot digital RAW images with my Nikon.

@TerryThomas_Atlanta -

I AGREE WITH TERRY.

BUT HERE IS A VERY GOOD APP THAT MIGHT COME IN HANDY AND WORKS WITH BOTH CANON AND NIKON AND IPHONE OR IPOD TOUCH.
