| | INTERNET MARKETING: if you stop blogging, traffic dies off
Back in early April, I did an experiment and stopped posting for about a week to see if it made a difference in traffic. At first it didn't appear to change things, but then it died off rapidly. Lately, I've been doing a lot of scattered entries on different topics (some entries are just photos, some are timely discussion topics) to see how that impacts traffic. Traffic climbed to 300,000 page views/month. It dropped to 150k in April. Duh! It's RSS feeds - but also new subscribers come in as a result of referrals via email or search engines. I enjoy blogging because well honestly I have a lot of time on my hands, but it is good for business. The more exposure we get, the more my products move off the shelves. Another thing I've found that helps is unpredictability. What brings people back is having a site that is completely random. Because if you go away for a while, you have no idea what I said while you've slept, so curiousity brings you back! If all I talked about was photography, you'd come back when your mind was on photography. But sometimes I talk about cleaning out the gall bladder. You should not ignore your gall bladder!
