GQ is correct -  as long as they are first cousins offspring,  they are once removed, 2x removed, etc..

Being an ABC and all with my parents from China, all of their friends are our aunties and uncles.  How the heck are we all related?  No clue but you know how it is w/asians, everyone is your auntie and uncle. So,  your cousin's son's son is your "nephew" which makes you cousin,  ahem "Uncle" Gary twice removed...

Oh so sorry..i made it confusing...your cousin's son's son is your cousin (to our old skool parents he would be called a Nephew) which makes you his cousin (and our old skool parents would teach baby cousin, ahem "nephew" to call you "Uncle" ) twice removed , Does this make any sense? I think i'm confusing myself, however, let it be known that you're going to be called Uncle Gary no matter what....that's just how it goes...

It's just the way things go for Chinese people.  There's a certain amount of "respect" that's given to the elderly or just those slightly older than you.

For instance, I'm just slightly older than Gary.  If he was to meet me and he knew I was slightly older than him (and if he were to follow traditional Chinese protocol) he would be calling me "older brother" even though we aren't even related!

Maybe a year ago, we found out that both Gary's dad and my family both came from the Southern part of China and his folks speak the same dialect as my folks (I speak Toi-San very poorly, but understand 100%.)  In that culture, because we all came from that general region of China, we'd be considered "related" even though we really aren't.

By the way, I'm ABC as well... and for those who don't know what that means... it's "American Born Chinese."  :)
