 NEED YOUR INPUT
Here's some quick concepts from Erik at Reddoorla.com - which one do you lean to?  This is going to be a pre-publication issue only before the publisher takes over.  I'll explain more later but let me know what you like!

My Bro inlaw is a graphic art designer & does a lot of book covers. From him I've learned you want simplicity, impact & to get the point across and though I"m not sure any of them get the point across, the first one is the most simplistic and impacting. The others are too distracting. Even making the circle around snaps look more like a lens would help. Hope this is helpful!

why don't you have just an all white cover like the beatles album with embossed print

Gary-

I've been a full-time graphic designer for the last decade(+) and I can't help cringe to think about what your designer is going through seeing you post his work on your blog and open it up for comments to the general public. I would cringe if any of my clients did that. Design by committee rarely yields positive results.

That being said, #1 and #2 are pretty darn good, #3 is just ok and a big no to #4.

I've gotta agree with danwagnerphotography that it needs some sort of tag line and Av8tqr is spot on with his comment "Too much complexity destroys the shelf sell qualities."

My advice: spend 1 hour (no more, no less) on the phone with Eric @ Red Door discussing the next round of revisions and then give him 30-50 billable hours to come up with 3 more covers based on the 1-hour conference call.

I think the first one stands out the most. It really caught my eye and would definitely stand out on a shelf.

WOW PEOPLE ARE REALLY FEEDING INTO NUMBER ONE?!?!

IT'S A YELLOW SPLAT PEOPLE!
NOTHING EYE CATCHING AS FAR AS TO SAY "OH LOOK A SPLAT! REMINDS ME OF GARYS BOOK!"

This is not a logo, it's a book cover.

I still like number 3, It is the best looking out the bumch, But I think its still needs to
go back to the drawing board. If you do choose number 3 I would think it looks best in a perfect
vertical line by the spline of the book with the fonts spaced out a bit since the first
S" is eating the "N" making it a bit hard to read.

If the cover could be embossed it would be fancy to touch not eye catching, but a nice touch.

I find it mind-boggling that nobody here cares that a book about famous photographer Elliot Erwitt titled Snaps was published in 2003 by Phaidon Press. Also two books titled Snaps and Double Snaps by James Percelay were published in 1994 and 1995 respectively.

Personally, I like the design you had shown several posts back a lot better.  1 reminds me of a mechanic--not sure why.  I do like someone's idea of changing it a bit to look like lens, possibly also changing the background color to red.  2 is attractive, but I don't think it fits the book.

I like the first cause its bright! The 2nd one is cool too....

Gary, I agree that i like the second one, but not the angle.  Also, it needs a little dimension, an edge like the letters were cut out from a....a...actually a beveled inner edge would do it.

Hey Gary, I'm with Missy on this big time...back to the drawing board! I'm sure you will come up with something wonderful when you set your imagination free! Look forward to reading it! Shalom, Bill

Hi Gary - I think you should ask your designers to resubmit new concepts. #2 seems to be getting the most votes, but I it reminds me of a project out of "Photoshop User" magazine a couple of years ago. I also would do some work on the subtitle. For me, something along the lines of "How I came to revolutionize Wedding Photography". I'm sure your book is not just about that, but it's what you are best known for. Just my opinion.
PS - Rather then "Snaps", how about "A Storybook Life"? (I know you're pretty set on "Snaps".)

I like Number 4! Sure it looks a bit like the Enquirer-- readers obviously like that look-- they do well at the supermarket checkout afterall. I would definitely be intrigued if I saw #4 cover at the bookstore and didn't know what it was all about. Number one and two look like novels...

The first one by a country mile IMO. Bold. Striking. Substantial. Optimistic. Confident. The others overly pander to style. It's what inside that counts. And the first one screams out (in the right way) and draws them there.

The first one hands down.  It screams "BUY ME".  When I go into a bookstore with no idea what I am looking for, I totally buy based on how the cover "feels" to me, and that first one is VERY intriguing!!  Maybe a different color would have a better feel?? Which color is it that makes you buy?  I think it's RED.

I think a cool shot for a cover of your book would be a siloette of you sitting on a stool with a camera in your hands. Also, I think the book should be packaged in a plastic case of the same material your Litespere is made out of. the book is a Snap? Well the book is snapped in a clouded white case.

Just an idea. If that dosent work, who cares...you're filthy stinking rich! LOL!

I don't like any of them from a graphic point of view. Love the name, quite clever.

I would think an image of you on the cover done in a way that reflected your light hearted attitude perhaps looking at the word snaps cutting through the top of your head.

People do judge a book by it's cover and i think you are the selling point more than the name.
