OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING JT PHOTO WORLD

It's really unfortunate that I have to make this announcement, but JT PHOTO WORLD in Manila has been removed from our list of authorized distributors, and we are taking legal action against them for merchandising counterfeit goods.  This is the first legal action we are taking against retailers that we will be prosecuting, and there will be more.
I appreciate so much the many e-mails you've sent me to help me with unfair business practices.  We are collecting all of the information about the retailers that are involved, and we intend to take action against every single one of them.

I've had a good relationship with Jerome Tan of JT Photo World, and he has been carrying our new products such as the puffer and Whaletail as well, but you will no longer be able to purchase GF products from JT Photoworld.  We only deal with dealers that are honorable.
Many of you know me in the Philippines since I spoke at your national convention.  I have always had great memories of the people there, and am pretty shocked that Jerome Tan would infringe on our IP rights while still being one of our distributors.  We are taking legal action against them of the highest magnitude, and please know that it is my opinion that this company is engaging in unscrupulous business practices.  JT Photoworld will no longer be able to sell our products, and we will inform you of the companies that will join our authorized distributor list in the future to serve that area.
We have awesome new products coming out, and I want to make sure that my friends in the Philippines will have an opportunity to get them directly within your country.
To my many friends in the Philippines, I am sorry that this had to happen.  Had Jerome Tan simply contacted me and discussed this, it wouldn't have happened.

They have two locations, one in Manila and one in Makati City. It is a small community here I will make sure that we spread word and boycott them.

Hey Gary, is this the company that I emailed you about that was selling your products on ebay?  I was floored when I saw them & for a fleeting moment, thought they were your manufacturing company selling a generic model.  Best wishes with your situation, I've been down a similar road with someone having stolen just over 1,000 of my photos for a website & making $$$ of of them.

Cheers!

Gary,

There is a certain large photo retailer in New York that has asked many of their product reps to provide less expensive "knock-off" products.  Their practices have bothered me for some time.  I am hoping they will be one among the many retailers you plan on pursuing.

PhotoJustice - the retailers I am friends with are very reputable. David, JT Photoworld's situation came up independently of your e-mail, of which we have received many. We are working behind the scenes collecting sample products, testimonials and advertising samples.

JT Photoworld took down their advertising, but we captured it before they were able to take it down. Thank you so much for all of your help.

Raphael, I thought it would bug you that the counterfeits were made in Shanghai.

I've been worried for some time that people could just copy my image and then "sell" the images to their relatives and friends as if
they'd been bought from me. Does anyone know of any such incidents?

Back to Gary's situation, I am designing a product and this is exactly what I worry about happening. Unless someone notifies you
other people could make one heck of a lot of money and you'd never have a clue.

Does Gary have a DVD or book addressing marketing and product protection, with emphasis on the latter?

Thanks - Ed

Unscrupulous Sensai says to the young student, "Sweep the leg...". I know from what movie that was uttered. Does anyone else?

It is unfortunate, Gary, that there are those who would rather break the law because of their greed when if they just followed the law, they could do very well with you great products.

I remember as a kid wondering how they could sell music casettes at the flea market for so cheap.  Then I wondered why noone prosecuted the bootleggers.  Good luck.

I wonder if its worth it $$$$$ to go after those who are stealing from us when they steal our patent items. The cost of Lawyers and the courts could be more than what you can get back from these theives. You should see the stuff they copying and selling from China, from replica watches to replica silver Tiffany jewelry.

Good luck Gary on trying to stop these bums, when one is stopped its like three others pop up. I've learned to make and get my money fast from an item, because it can take as little as a week or so before someone is having it copied overseas.

I will not post the name of NY retailer I am referring to in this blog but would be happy to supply to you via an email if you are at all curious.  I know nobody wants to think that they would or could do things like this to their suppliers, but the truth is they do and have and will continue to do so until a loud enough voice of opposition is heard.

From all accounts, and having used one for awhile, the material quality and performance etc is the same, if not better.

The FIT is immeasurably better than the original - it's snug (if you choose the correct size - there are four P1 being the smallest and P4 the largest) and even if you 'accidentally' bump it, it doesn't come off. It's nice and plaible, but thick and strong enough to stay on. This property allowed me to mod a P4 to fit a Metz 45 series flash.

I personally can't stand the strong 'plasticky' smell, but guess that's a small price to pay and since I don't often go around with a salad bowl diffuser stuck to my nose, the smell's a moot point.

In short, it works as supposed to, and fits a whole lot better. __________________

The examples are plentiful.  Greed makes people do wrong things.

I guess the question is how  many does it take to stand up and say no! enough is enough,  until the chinese government stands up.  If they stood up there would be change.  I know its not likely but there is hope.  Of course then it would shift to another 3rd world country.  It plagues all industries.  I need to step away to take my Zantac now.

Time to drift to a happy place.

Congratualtions on your marriage. :)

I had the same problem while working with Lensbabies. To bring it to the China market or not! We wanted to springboard and market it in china but having the fear that you will see"ChinaBabies" stealing your IP and selling it at a small fraction of your price and worst, flood the world market with fake product.

Anyway, hear that lambency is also selling in Brunei!

I have given them the opportunity to sign an affidavit under oath stating under the penalty of perjury that they have not engaged in any wrongdoing, and they have refused to do so. I of course would like them to be innocent.
